loopdaloop is a beat maker for iPhone made by BIFF.ai: a drum machine and synth groovebox that grooves the moment you touch it and hands you the controls the moment you want them. Tap a pad and a drum machine, a bass line or a pad starts playing, on the beat, in key, already swinging. Hold an orb and a halo of moves lets you shape the sound. Nothing you do can be out of time or out of key. Its 12 drum machines and classic synths are circuit models, not samples, and the whole thing runs offline with no account and no subscription.

How does loopdaloop play?

  1. Tap a pad. A drum machine, a bass line, a lead, a pad or a texture lands on the deck and starts playing at once, on the beat, in key and already swinging. Keep tapping and you have a track.
  2. Mash the one-tap moves. Fill, drop, lift, flip, more hits, fewer hits, half-time, double-time: each is one tap, quantized to the next bar, and resolves itself. Whole-deck warps (echo, space, dark, crush, phaser, flanger, a Leslie cabinet, auto-wah, pump) are drawn in the sky above the deck: echo ripples it, space hazes it, the Leslie spins around its orb.
  3. Hold an orb to take control. A halo of moves fans out around the sound: busier, calmer, half-time, double-time, flip, swap, octave up and down, duplicate, tone, faders, edit, banish.
  4. Draw, shape, paint. Draw the beat on a 16-step grid that only offers notes in key. Shape the sound on a four-band EQ drawn as one curve. Mix the kit on a fader per hit while it plays. Paint one chord per bar and the bass, lead and pads follow it.
  5. Melt and stretch. Drag one orb onto another and within a bar they become a single new instrument. Drag an orb sideways to bend its filter, up to throw its echo; record the ride and it loops as an orbit around the orb. Every move can be undone back to the start of the session.
  6. Keep it. Capture the deck as a scene, tap scenes in any order, keep songs. Every new song rolls a fresh tempo, key, mood and groove.

Classic machines, synthesized

The drum machines are modelled as circuits rather than played back as samples: bridged-T kicks, modal snares with real wire rattle, granular claps, FM-metal hats with a ringing plate body. The set covers the TR-909, TR-808, TR-606, TR-707, TR-505, LinnDrum, LM-1, MPC60, SP-1200, CR-78 and DMX, plus machines you forge in the app. The synths are subtractive voices in the spirit of the Minimoog, Juno, TB-303, SH-101, MS-20, Polysix and OB-Xa, with accent, slide, detune and drive.

Seventeen drum styles (house, disco, funk, pop, boom bap, trap, drill, grime, electro, big beat, big room, rolling techno, 2-step, half-time, footwork, gqom and dembow) are written to groove rather than to fill, each with its own bus dynamics, and every sound you add is picked for the tempo and style already playing: a house deck gets an offbeat bass and organ stabs, a drill deck gets sliding 808s. Fourteen chord journeys and seven moods drive the harmony; the whole deck follows it, and the drums are tuned to the key as well. MPC-style groove and light humanization are built into every pattern, with a readout to dial the swing from straight to deep.

Privacy

Songs, scenes, hand-drawn patterns, tone settings and instrument presets stay on the device and are never uploaded; deleting the app deletes them. The only thing the app sends anywhere is an anonymous usage event (an action name, a random per-install ID, platform and timestamp), which is not linked to you and not used for tracking across apps.
