loopdaloop, BIFF.ai’s beat maker for iPhone, is out on the App Store today, 10 October 2026. It is free, with no in-app purchases and no subscription, and it runs fully offline with no account. Tap once and a beat, a bass line or a pad starts playing: on the beat, in key, already swinging. Hold an orb and you take control.

Get loopdaloop on the App Store

Cover: three unedited screens from loopdaloop 1.0. The halo of moves around the drum orb, the deck playing, and the step editor.

Music first, grid second

Most beat makers open on an empty grid. loopdaloop opens on music. “Add sound” drops a surprise voice on the deck (a kit, a bass, a lead, a pad, a texture) and it plays right away, picked for the tempo and the style already playing, so a house deck gets an offbeat bass and organ stabs and a drill deck gets sliding bass. Fill, drop, lift, flip, half-time and double-time are one tap each, quantized and self-resolving: mash buttons, get an arrangement. Nothing you do can be out of time or out of key, because every move lands on the next bar.

Control when you want it

Hold any orb and a halo of moves fans out around it: busier, calmer, flip, swap, octave, tone, faders, edit. From there:

Draw the beat. A 16-step grid per sound. Melodies get a row per note of the key, so anything you draw stays in key.

Shape the sound. A four-band EQ on every sound, drawn as one curve, and a fader for every hit of the kit.

Paint the chords. One chord per bar; bass, lead and pads follow it, voice-led.

Melt two sounds. Drag one orb onto another and in one bar they become a single new instrument.

Hear the stage. Every sound plays from where its orb stands. Walk the listener through the band and the mix follows.

Loop any move, undo anything. Press an orb or a fader, then drag, and it loops. Every move can be walked back to the start of the session.

Every sound made on the phone

Every sound is synthesized in the app, not played from samples. There are 17 drum styles, from house and boom bap to drill, gqom and dembow, plus 14 chord journeys and seven moods. That is why the whole app is about a 3 MB download and there are no sample packs to fetch.

Scenes and songs

Capture the deck as a scene, tap scenes in any order, and line them up in the sequencer row so the song plays itself. Every new song rolls a fresh tempo, key, mood and groove, and remembers its own.

No account, no tracking

There is no sign-in, and songs, scenes and patterns stay on the phone. The only data that leaves the device is anonymous usage events with a random per-install ID: not linked to you and not used for tracking. The details are in the privacy policy.

Until recently, a serious agent needed a closed model. Open models could chat and code, but give one a browser, a shell and forty tool calls in a row and it lost the thread. This summer that changed. Moonshot released the weights of Kimi K3, and independent leaderboards such as BenchLM now score open and closed models on the same agentic benchmarks. The gap at the top is a few points, not a league. That is why botfleets runs on open-weights models served in the EU.

What the Kimi K3 paper shows

Kimi K3 is a 2.8-trillion-parameter mixture-of-experts model with 104 billion active parameters and a one-million-token context window, with weights on Hugging Face. Its post-training is reinforcement learning in agentic and coding environments where one rollout runs “over hundreds or thousands of tool calls”. The abstract concedes it “still trails the most powerful proprietary models, namely Claude Fable 5 and GPT-5.6 Sol”. The agentic rows of its evaluation table, all at maximum thinking effort, say how much:

Benchmark

Kimi K3 (open weights)

Claude Fable 5

GPT-5.6 Sol

BrowseComp (web research)

91.2

88.0

90.4

MCPMark-Verified (MCP tool tasks)

94.5

87.4

92.9

MCP-Atlas

84.2

84.7

83.6

Toolathlon-Verified

76.5

77.9

74.9

AutomationBench

30.8

29.1

29.7

Terminal-Bench 2.1

88.3

88.0

88.8

JobBench

54.3

57.4

45.4

GDPval-AA v2 (Elo)

1686

1747

1736

Agentic benchmarks from the Kimi K3 report (Table 2; higher is better)

On web research, MCP tool use and automation tasks the open model is level with or ahead of both closed models. It trails on JobBench and GDPval, the broad “do a professional’s job” evaluations. These are Moonshot’s own numbers, so they need a second source.

How it benchmarks against closed models

BenchLM aggregates published results into one weighted score per model and never interpolates missing scores. Its agentic category covers Terminal-Bench, BrowseComp, OSWorld-style computer use, tool calling and workplace tasks. From its 21 September 2026 snapshot:

Model

Weights

Agentic

Overall

Price in / out

Claude Fable 5.1

closed

80.2

84.6

$10 / $50

Claude Opus 5

closed

79.1

81.9

$5 / $25

Kimi K3

open (BenchLM status: pending)

72.1

74.4

$3 / $15

GPT-6 Astra

closed

70.6

83.8

$10 / $50

GPT-5.6 Sol

closed

69.9

80.7

$4 / $20

GLM-5.3

open

68.7

67.1

not listed

Qwen3.8 Max

open

67.5

73.3

not listed

Qwen3.8-27B

open

63.9

64.2

not listed

BenchLM agentic category, snapshot of 21 September 2026 (list prices per million tokens, input / output)

Kimi K3 scores above GPT-6 Astra and GPT-5.6 Sol on agentic work at 30% of the leader’s output price, and BenchLM calls its overall score “conservative” because coverage is still partial. Only the three Claude models sit above it. Further down, Qwen3.8-27B, a model that fits on one node, scores 63.9, ahead of Claude Opus 4.8 and GPT-5.5. The best open-weights models now sit eight to thirteen points behind the best closed model and above most of the closed field.

Why good enough is enough

An agent is a long loop of small steps: call a tool, read the result, decide, call the next one. A scheduled automation runs that loop every hour, forever. Once a model clears the reliability bar for those steps, three things matter more than the last eight benchmark points:

Cost per run. Kimi K3 output tokens cost 30% of Claude Fable 5.1’s at list price; smaller open models cost less, or nothing if you host them.

Where the data goes. Open weights can be served by any provider, including EU providers under GDPR, or on your own hardware.

Freedom to swap. Build for the upgrade: with open weights a model swap is a download, not a contract.

The remaining gap matters for open-ended, multi-day tasks with no test to run and a human expert as the only judge. It matters little for a task with a success condition a machine can check. An automation is the second kind.

How botfleets uses open-weights models

botfleets runs AI automations that run themselves. You describe a recurring job in plain words, such as “fetch the receipts from my inbox every Monday and filter out personal expenses”. botfleets drafts it as a graph of tasks, tests it against the real services, runs it on a cron-style schedule and repairs it when a run fails. All inference runs on open-weights models served by GDPR-compliant providers in the EU, and the platform is hosted in the EU.

Tools over MCP. Automations connect to tools over the Model Context Protocol, plus the web, email and HTTP APIs. That is where the open frontier is strongest: Kimi K3’s 94.5 on MCPMark-Verified is the highest score in the table above. While drafting, botfleets picks the best-ranked server for each step on MCP Toplist, preferring ones that need no key.

Test, then schedule. A draft is tested against the real services before it is saved. “Is the model good enough?” becomes a pass or fail per automation.

Repair, not retry. When a run fails, botfleets diagnoses the step that broke and redrafts it. Each run leaves notes that improve the next draft.

Isolated branches. Tasks form a directed acyclic graph; a failing branch does not stop the branches that share nothing with it.

None of this needs a model that can pass the bar exam. It needs one that calls the right tool with the right arguments a few hundred times a day and keeps your invoices in Europe. Two years ago no open model could. Now several can.

Caveats

The paper’s scores are self-reported at maximum thinking effort, and BenchLM still lists Kimi K3’s weights as pending verification. The eight-point gap at the top is real: for “refactor this 200-file codebase over a weekend”, the closed leaders remain the safer bet. For “every morning, do these twelve things and tell me if one fails”, they are not.

Get the candles out: MCP Toplist has crossed 100,000 tracked MCP servers. As of today the counter reads 103,039 servers from 66,017 organizations — and it’s still climbing fast, with more than 16,000 new servers added in the last 30 days alone.

When we last wrote about MCP Toplist, the index stood at 58,000 servers and the point of the tool was simple: turn a chaotic, scattered ecosystem into one ranked, searchable list. That mission hasn’t changed — but at nearly double the size, finding a server is only half the problem. The other half is knowing whether you can actually run it. So along with the milestone, we’ve shipped three features aimed exactly at that: trending views, installation instructions, and a setup-type label on every server.

The Milestone: 103,039 Servers, Five Registries, One List

MCP Toplist aggregates the official MCP registry, Glama, Smithery, mcp.so, and PulseMCP into a single deduplicated index, refreshed twice a day. Every server gets a composite score from 0 to 100 built from GitHub stars, version count, release activity, listing age, and organic reach — so the main toplist reads as a genuine popularity contest rather than an alphabetical dump.

At 100k+ servers, that ranking does serious work. Roughly speaking, for any capability you can name there are now dozens of candidate servers; the score is what separates the battle-tested from the weekend experiments.

New: Trending Views to Catch Rising Servers Early

The main toplist naturally favors the established heavyweights — stars and listing age compound. But with 16,000+ new servers arriving a month, the interesting stuff is often three weeks old. The new trending views fix that:

Best New MCP Servers — the top 50 servers listed within the last 90 days, ranked by the same composite score as the main list. This is where you catch the next AbletonMCP while it’s still small.

Most Active MCP Servers — ranked by commit count over the last 30 days. Active development is one of the strongest signals that a server is maintained and worth depending on.

New MCP Servers — the freshest arrivals across all registries, if you want the raw feed.

Both ranked views update twice daily, in step with the index.

New: A Setup Type on Every Server

The most annoying failure mode in MCP discovery used to be this: you find the perfect server, wire it into your client, and then discover it needs an API key for a paid service you don’t have. MCP Toplist now classifies every server’s setup requirements up front:

No setup — runs out of the box; no credentials or required configuration declared.

Credentials required — needs user-supplied configuration before first use, typically an API key, token, or connection string set via environment variables.

Hosted remote — a cloud-hosted server you connect to over HTTP, including whether it’s auth-gated behind a sign-in.

The label appears in the Connect section of every server page, and it’s also returned in search results when you use MCP Toplist as an MCP server — so your AI assistant can prefer servers you can actually connect to before recommending one.

New: Installation Instructions, Right on the Server Page

Each server page now carries a Connect section that goes beyond classification. When a server publishes a machine-readable install config, MCP Toplist shows you exactly what you need: the package to run and the environment variables to set for local servers, or the remote URL and its auth scheme for hosted ones. When a server doesn’t declare its config, the page says so honestly and points you to the repository README instead of guessing.

And for the client side of the equation, the universal connect guide walks through hooking any MCP server into Claude, Cursor, and every other major MCP client.

The Meta-Trick Still Works

Our favorite way to use all of this is still the recursive one: connect MCP Toplist itself as an MCP server and let your assistant do the hunting. Ask it for “the best Postgres MCP that needs no setup” and it can now search 103,039 servers, filter by setup type, check what’s trending, and pull the install config — in one conversation.

A hundred thousand servers sounds like chaos. With the right index, it’s a catalog.

MCP Toplist is built and maintained by BIFF.ai. It tracks 103,000+ MCP servers across the official MCP registry, Glama, Smithery, mcp.so, and PulseMCP, updated twice daily, and is free to use on the web or as a connected MCP server.

There are now tens of thousands of Model Context Protocol servers floating around. That’s wonderful and completely overwhelming. For any given task there might be twenty servers that claim to do it, scattered across half a dozen registries, with no easy way to tell the polished, popular ones from the weekend experiments.

So how do you actually find the good stuff?

My favorite answer is a wonderfully meta one: there’s an MCP for that. MCP Toplist — the search engine for MCP servers that we built here at BIFF.ai — lets you point at a capability and get back ranked, real options with the context you need to choose. To show you how it works, I went hunting for the coolest music-making MCPs I could find. Here’s the tool, and here’s the haul.

Meet MCP Toplist

MCP Toplist indexes the entire MCP ecosystem — well north of 58,000 servers at last count — and lets you query it by keyword. It pulls from all the major catalogs at once (glama, PulseMCP, mcp.so, the official MCP registry, Smithery) so you’re not bouncing between sites and comparing apples to oranges. If you’re curious how the rankings are calculated, it’s all documented openly.

It exposes two simple moves:

Search — give it keywords describing a capability (“postgres database,” “browser automation,” “music production”) and it returns matching servers ranked by relevance and popularity. Each result comes with a name, a description of what it does, its GitHub repo, a star count, an overall rank, which registries list it, and a link to its page on mcptoplist.com.

Get details — once a server looks promising, pull its full profile: the complete description, repo, star count, rank, how many versions it has shipped, and every registry that carries it.

That’s the whole workflow. Search broad, scan the rankings, drill into the contenders. The star counts and ranks do a lot of the filtering for you — they’re a quick proxy for “has anyone actually used this and liked it.” You can use it as a website, or connect it as an MCP server inside Claude, Cursor, or any MCP client and let your assistant do the searching.

The Example: Finding Music MCPs

I started with the obvious query — “music production making” — and immediately the shape of the ecosystem appeared. Then I ran a second, sharper pass for “Ableton MIDI DAW live coding synthesis” to surface the production-focused tools. Two searches, and the whole landscape sorted itself into clean categories. Here’s what rose to the top.

Driving a real DAW (this is where the action is)

By a mile, the most active and polished corner is Ableton Live control — servers that let an AI assistant operate a real digital audio workstation through natural language.

AbletonMCP (ahujasid) is the runaway favorite at over 2,600 GitHub stars. It offers bidirectional control of Ableton Live: creating tracks, editing MIDI, controlling playback, loading instruments, and browsing your library for composition and sound design. If you try one thing on this list, start here. → View on MCP Toplist

Ableton Live MCP Server (Simon-Kansara) controls Live over the OSC protocol, with solid tools for managing tracks, routing, and DAW configuration. → View on MCP Toplist

Ableton MCP Extended (uisato) adds a genuinely clever twist: it wires in ElevenLabs so you can generate AI audio and voice elements and drop them straight into your session. → View on MCP Toplist

Live coding and full composition studios

Strudel Live Coding drives Strudel.cc for live-coded music, packing 40+ tools for pattern creation, music-theory operations, genre-specific generators, and real-time audio analysis. → View on MCP Toplist

mcp-music-studio (linxule) is a two-mode creative studio: scored composition (ABC notation rendered to sheet music plus audio) and live performance via Strudel, with all 128 General MIDI instruments on tap. → View on MCP Toplist

melrōse is a “musical expression player” for a more programmatic, code-it-as-you-go approach to making music. → View on MCP Toplist

Generating MIDI and finished tracks

DAW MIDI Generator produces production-ready MIDI files — chord progressions, drum patterns, bass lines, melodies, full arrangements — that drop into Logic Pro, Ableton, FL Studio, and friends. → View on MCP Toplist

Mureka.ai Music Generation bridges to Mureka’s engine for on-demand lyrics, complete songs, and instrumental tracks — no production know-how required. → View on MCP Toplist

Analysis and theory

music21-mcp-server is a multi-interface analysis server built on the music21 toolkit — perfect when you want to dissect harmony, voice-leading, or structure rather than generate. → View on MCP Toplist

Why a Meta-Tool Like This Matters

Notice what the search did for me. Without it, I’d have been Googling “ableton mcp” and landing on whichever repo had the best SEO. Instead, I got the whole field — the 2,600-star heavyweight right next to the niche experiments — sorted so I could see at a glance where the community had already voted with its time. The star counts told me AbletonMCP was the safe starting point. The descriptions told me uisato’s fork had the ElevenLabs trick the others didn’t. That’s the difference between stumbling onto a tool and choosing one.

The same trick works for anything. Swap “music production” for “stripe payments,” “github issues,” or “kubernetes” and the MCP Toplist catalog does the same job: turns a chaotic, scattered ecosystem into a ranked shortlist in one query.

Where to Start

If you want to make music: install AbletonMCP, connect it to Ableton Live, and start asking your assistant to build tracks. It’s the most polished, most battle-tested option on the list.

If you want to find your own perfect MCP for something else entirely: that’s what MCP Toplist is for. Describe the capability, read the rankings, drill into the top two or three. The best tool for your task is almost certainly already out there — you just needed the right tool to find it.

MCP Toplist is built and maintained by BIFF.ai. It tracks 58,000+ MCP servers across the official MCP registry, glama, PulseMCP, mcp.so, and Smithery, and is free to use on the web or as a connected MCP server.

The most valuable change to Glotter Translate I’ve shipped so far wasn’t a feature. It was an upgrade patch—replacing the brain of my translation app with a single configuration change. When a stronger model arrived, I didn’t rewrite; I just switched. Overnight, “pretty cool” became “can’t live without it.”

Durable products in a fast-moving world

In fast tech cycles, durability doesn’t mean freezing the stack. It means designing for graceful replacement. With AI, that principle pays dividends: as models leap forward, the teams who planned for swappability convert hype into product-market fit.

The evaluation loop

“Newer” doesn’t always mean “better for me.” I run each candidate through a minimal eval loop:

Quality: rubric scoring for translations.

Latency: p50 and p95 under realistic concurrency.

Cost: dollars per successful task (not per 1K tokens).

Safety & drift: basic red-team prompts and regression tests on past failures.

If a model clears the bar, it graduates to a canary release behind a flag. Many don’t. The ones that do feel like cheating.

The payoff: compounding improvements

What users experience is the sum of model behavior plus product preferences. Model upgrades let you improve both quality and latency. The surprise isn’t that models improve; it’s how much your product improves. My “one-line” swap brought better translations and a more snappy experience. I didn’t change the promise of the product—only its likelihood of keeping that promise.

Ship the glide path, not just the feature

Traditional software ages like wood—you maintain it, sand the rough edges, and keep water out. AI software ages like a service—new models arrive, and your product inherits their capabilities if you’ve designed for swappability.

In the AI era, the best investment isn’t another widget—it’s the architecture choices that lets you catch every tailwind. Build for the upgrade, and your smallest PRs will do your loudest storytelling.

DreamFusion is an open-source tool designed for creating 3D content from text descriptions. It uses 2D diffusion models and Score Distillation Sampling (SDS) to generate detailed and high-quality 3D assets.

Main Features

DreamFusion stands out in its ability to turn natural language inputs into precise 3D models. Key features include:

Neural Rendering: Uses advanced neural networks to produce high-quality 3D visuals.

View Consistency: Ensures objects look consistent from all angles.

Texture and Material Quality: Produces detailed textures with realistic materials.

Lighting Management: Handles complex lighting scenarios effectively.

This tool is particularly effective for organic models, such as natural shapes and textures, ensuring accurate geometry and surface details.

Setup Guide

Before starting, make sure your system meets these requirements:

A CUDA-compatible GPU with at least 16GB VRAM

Python 3.8 or newer

Git installed

Note that Google’s original DreamFusion code was never released. The open-source implementation everyone actually runs is stable-dreamfusion, which swaps Google’s Imagen for Stable Diffusion. To set it up, follow these steps:

Clone the repository and install the dependencies (a virtual environment is recommended):

git clone https://github.com/ashawkey/stable-dreamfusion.git
cd stable-dreamfusion
python -m venv venv_stable-dreamfusion && source venv_stable-dreamfusion/bin/activate
pip install -r requirements.txt

Build the CUDA extensions (needed by the Instant-NGP-style NeRF backbone). Either install them up front, or let them compile on the first run:

bash scripts/install_ext.sh

If you would rather skip the CUDA build, add
--backbone grid_taichi
to the run command below to use the Taichi backend instead.

Run it with your text prompt.
-O
is shorthand for
--cuda_ray --fp16
, the recommended fast setting:

python main.py --text "a hamburger" --workspace trial -O

Results (checkpoints, renders and a video) land in the
trial/
workspace folder. Tight on VRAM? Add
--vram_O
. To export a mesh once training finishes:

python main.py --workspace trial -O --test --save_mesh

For the best results, use clear and specific text prompts that describe physical characteristics rather than abstract ideas. Depending on your hardware and the model’s complexity, the process typically takes 30–45 minutes.

Shap-E

Shap-E is OpenAI’s tool for converting text descriptions into 3D assets. This open-source project enables users to create both textured meshes and Neural Radiance Fields (NeRFs) from text inputs.

Core Features

Shap-E’s standout feature is its ability to generate two types of outputs: textured triangle meshes and NeRF representations. This gives users the flexibility to choose the format that best suits their needs.

How to Set It Up

To use Shap-E effectively, you’ll need to meet specific hardware and software requirements. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

1. System Requirements

GPU: NVIDIA with at least 8GB VRAM

CUDA: Version 11.7 or newer

Python: Version 3.9 or later

RAM: Minimum of 16GB

2. Installation Steps

Run these commands in your terminal to install Shap-E:

git clone https://github.com/openai/shap-e
cd shap-e
pip install -e .

3. Generating 3D Models

Shap-E ships no command-line generator or config file; you drive it from Python. The quickest route is the bundled notebook
shap_e/examples/sample_text_to_3d.ipynb
(there is also
sample_image_to_3d.ipynb
for image input). The same workflow as a plain script looks like this:

import torch
from shap_e.diffusion.sample import sample_latents
from shap_e.diffusion.gaussian_diffusion import diffusion_from_config
from shap_e.models.download import load_model, load_config
from shap_e.util.notebooks import decode_latent_mesh

device = torch.device('cuda' if torch.cuda.is_available() else 'cpu')
xm = load_model('transmitter', device=device)
model = load_model('text300M', device=device)
diffusion = diffusion_from_config(load_config('diffusion'))

latents = sample_latents(
    batch_size=1,
    model=model,
    diffusion=diffusion,
    guidance_scale=15.0,
    model_kwargs=dict(texts=["your description"]),
    progress=True,
    clip_denoised=True,
    use_fp16=True,
    use_karras=True,
    karras_steps=64,
    sigma_min=1e-3,
    sigma_max=160,
    s_churn=0,
)

mesh = decode_latent_mesh(xm, latents[0]).tri_mesh()
with open('output.obj', 'w') as f:
    mesh.write_obj(f)

The model weights download automatically on first use. The knobs worth tweaking are the arguments to
sample_latents
:

Parameter

Default

Purpose

guidance_scale

15.0

How closely the result follows the text prompt

karras_steps

64

Number of sampling steps; more means better quality but slower

batch_size

4 (notebook)

How many candidate models to generate per prompt

To get a NeRF-style turntable render instead of a mesh, use
decode_latent_images
with
create_pan_cameras
as shown in the notebook.

For the best results, use detailed prompts that describe physical traits and geometric features. On supported hardware, the process usually takes 3–5 minutes per model.

Text2Mesh

Text2Mesh refines existing 3D models by applying text-driven stylistic updates. Unlike tools that create models entirely from text, Text2Mesh focuses on enhancing and transforming pre-existing meshes.

Main Features

Text2Mesh specializes in texture and geometry adjustments, offering features like:

Set up the framework by cloning the repository and preparing your environment:

git clone https://github.com/threestudio-project/threestudio.git
cd threestudio
conda create -n threestudio python=3.8
conda activate threestudio
pip install -r requirements.txt

Install PyTorch (1.12 or newer, matching your CUDA version) before the requirements step; the README lists tested combinations. Installing
ninja
first speeds up compiling the CUDA extensions.

3. Configuration and Your First Model

The repository already ships a
configs/
folder with one YAML file per method (DreamFusion, Magic3D, ProlificDreamer, Zero-1-to-3 and more). You pick a config and override any setting on the command line, so a first text-to-3D run looks like this:

python launch.py --config configs/dreamfusion-sd.yaml --train --gpu 0 system.prompt_processor.prompt="a zoomed out DSLR photo of a baby bunny sitting on top of a stack of pancakes"

The
dreamfusion-sd.yaml
config uses Stable Diffusion as guidance and fits in about 6GB of VRAM. For higher quality, the
dreamfusion-if.yaml
config uses DeepFloyd IF (over 20GB VRAM, and you must accept its license on Hugging Face first). Outputs, checkpoints and a parsed copy of the config land in
outputs/
.

Thanks to its modular design, you can add custom components without losing compatibility with the main framework.

Updated 16 September 2026. This article was first published on 17 March 2025, eleven days after Manus launched as an invite-only beta. It has since been fact-checked against primary sources. The GAIA section now shows the actual scores Manus reported at launch instead of a table with no numbers; an earlier sentence that attributed those results to a “comparative study by OpenAI Deep Research” was wrong (the comparison was published by Manus itself, using figures OpenAI had reported for its own product) and has been corrected; and a dated timeline of what happened next, from the public launch to the announced and then blocked Meta acquisition, replaces the original outlook section.

MANUS is an AI agent designed to simplify complex tasks and deliver results autonomously. Unlike most AI systems that focus on single tasks, MANUS handles multi-step workflows by combining advanced models and task management. Here’s what you need to know:

What It Does: From financial analysis to travel planning, MANUS turns ideas into actionable outcomes.

How It Works: Integrates multiple AI models and breaks down tasks into manageable steps.

Key Features:

Data analysis with interactive dashboards.

Custom educational content creation.

Market research and supplier identification.

Personalized travel guides.

E-commerce performance insights.

Strengths: At launch Manus reported GAIA scores of 86.5%, 70.1% and 57.7% on levels 1 to 3, above the figures OpenAI had published for Deep Research. The numbers were self-reported and, as far as we can tell, never independently replicated.

However, documentation gaps on system stability, AI safety, and marketing claims raise questions about its real-world reliability. See the timeline at the end for what happened after launch.

This multi-model setup allows MANUS to effectively handle complex tasks with precision.

Task Management System

The task management system in MANUS breaks down complex requests into smaller, manageable tasks. It analyzes the request, assigns the right AI models, coordinates the workflow, and ensures high-quality results. For example, when analyzing e-commerce operations, MANUS processes sales data, creates visual reports, provides tailored strategy recommendations, and compiles performance summaries.

This system is versatile enough to handle tasks like crafting personalized travel plans or conducting detailed market research on AI products across industries, making it a powerful tool for managing intricate projects.

Testing and Performance Results

The only quantitative evidence Manus offered at launch was a single benchmark result, which it published on its own website. Here is what it actually said, and where the comparison numbers come from.

GAIA Test Results

GAIA (General AI Assistants) is a benchmark from researchers at Meta AI, Hugging Face and AutoGPT: 466 real-world questions that need web browsing, tool use and multi-step reasoning, graded in three difficulty levels. On its launch page on 6 March 2025, Manus published the following pass rates for its standard production configuration, alongside the numbers OpenAI had reported for Deep Research one month earlier and the previous state of the art cited by Manus.

Sources: the Manus launch page at manus.im (the chart has since been removed from the site, but the figures were widely reported, for example by DataCamp), and OpenAI’s Deep Research announcement of 2 February 2025, which lists pass@1 scores of 74.29%, 69.06% and 47.6% for the same three levels.

AI Agent Comparison

Correction: an earlier version of this article said the comparison came from “a comparative study by OpenAI Deep Research”. That was wrong. OpenAI never evaluated Manus; the side-by-side chart was made by Manus, which placed its own scores next to the GAIA figures OpenAI had published for Deep Research. So the comparison is vendor-reported on one side and vendor-reported on the other, with no third party involved.

Three caveats apply. Manus did not publish its evaluation harness, per-question outputs or the number of runs, so the scores cannot be reproduced from the announcement. GAIA is a fixed public benchmark, and agents can be tuned against it. And a benchmark lead on browsing-and-tool tasks says little about the stability, safety and cost questions raised below. The honest reading in March 2025 was “promising but unverified”, and we have not seen an independent replication of the launch figures since.

What happened next (March 2025 to September 2026)

The original version of this section speculated about future updates. Here is what actually happened, with sources.

6 March 2025: Manus launches as an invite-only beta from Butterfly Effect, the Beijing-founded team behind the Monica browser assistant. More than two million people join the waitlist in the first week.

May 2025: the waitlist is removed and anyone can sign up with free daily task credits, shortly after a $75 million round led by Benchmark (South China Morning Post). The company later moves its headquarters to Singapore.

16 October 2025: Manus 1.5 ships; 15 December 2025: Manus 1.6 adds a higher-performance mode, mobile development and a design view (Manus blog). On 17 December the company reports $100 million in annual recurring revenue.

29 December 2025: Meta announces it will acquire Manus, in a deal reported at around $2 billion.

April 2026: China’s National Development and Reform Commission prohibits the transaction on national-security grounds and orders the parties to withdraw it (France 24).

1 September 2026: Manus formally resumes independent operations as an “independent agent lab” led by its founding team. Users whose data was deleted during the separation are offered a restoration portal.

So the product survived, grew fast and became a large acquisition target within a year, then had that exit reversed by regulators. The open questions from March 2025 (stability under load, safety controls, and how far the marketing runs ahead of the evidence) still apply, and the launch benchmark remains the only hard number the company has published for the agent’s task performance.
